Loren Marshall “Legs” Carney

Loren Marshall “Legs” Carney, age 83, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones.

Born on January 3, 1943, in Collinsville, Texas, Legs spent his life rooted in the community where he was raised, graduated high school, and spent much of his life working and building a life centered on family, hard work, and the simple things he enjoyed most.

Legs found happiness in life’s quieter moments. He loved crappie fishing, cane fishing for catfish, and pheasant hunting with his sons and nephews. He especially looked forward to spring, when the creeks were running—if you couldn’t find him, chances were he was down by the water fishing. In his younger years, he enjoyed working on and restoring older vehicles. He also spent many mornings visiting with friends over coffee at Royce’s Oil Change Shop, where he kept up with the latest town happenings—if you needed to know something, you could ask Legs or one of the boys at the shop.

Above all, he cherished time with his family, especially traveling across Texas with Brandi to watch football. Those miles together began in Prosper when Brady first started his coaching career, continued through Lindsay, and carried on through their time in Muenster. Though he wasn’t able to attend the state championship games to watch Brady and Casen, he was chomping at the bit to watch it from Brady’s laptop the very next day.

He took great pride in watching his sons and grandchildren, Quin and Cory, compete, and later watching Casen and Ady play for Muenster. He rarely missed a game, and nothing brought him more joy than supporting them from the stands. He was never shy about telling anyone who would listen that those Carney boys were going to clean house playing football on Friday night and leave town with a win.

When Ady was born, he was smitten. As his first granddaughter, she held a special place in his heart. He often said how beautiful she was and joked that she must get her looks from her Papa Legs, though he would later admit she was her grandmother, Linda Ann, all over again. With those beautiful green eyes, he never stood a chance. He lovingly called her his “sweet pea,” and she had him wrapped around her finger—and he knew it.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lori Ann Carney; his parents, William Ray Carney and Alice Carney; and his siblings, Loveda Reed, H.M. Carney, Lavergne Carney, Billy Gene Carney, and Linda Mitchell.

He is survived by his sons, Darryl Carney and wife Jolene of Collinsville, Texas; Chad Carney and Madison Melson of Ardmore, Oklahoma; and Brady and Brandi Carney of Muenster, Texas; his grandchildren, Quintin Carney and wife Augusta, Cory Carney and wife Emily, Casen Carney, and Adysen Carney; his great-grandchild, Parker Carney; his sister, Barbara Vannoy and husband Wallace; and many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

The creek will feel a little quieter this spring, and Friday night lights won’t be the same without him in the stands, but his memory will live on in our hearts.

Funeral arrangements are currently being finalized, and details will be shared with family and friends as they become available.
