Darden DeWayne Fletcher, 90, of Whitesboro, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, February 28, 2026.

Darden was born on June 30, 1935, in Electra, Texas to Charlie and Gladys Olene (Holbrook) Fletcher. He married the love of his life, Nancy Gaddie, on August 11, 1961, in Whitesboro at the North Union Street Church of Christ. They were faithful members there for many years, building a life centered on faith, family, and service.

Darden proudly served his country in the United States Army from December 1957 until his honorable discharge in August 1962. Following his military service, he dedicated more than 35 years to the community working at the post office for both Whitesboro and Gordonville, retiring as the Postmaster for Gordonville, where he was known for his dependability, kindness, and friendly smile.  Darden continued serving his community as a little league coach for baseball, a Cub Scout leader, a band parent, and as a school board member for Whitesboro ISD for a number of years; he had a deep love and pride in his community.

He had a deep love for photography, a passion he shared with Nancy, and he also enjoyed movies, music, concerts, and reading. Darden was musically gifted and played the organ, bringing joy to those who heard him. In his later years, he could often be found playing Mahjong on the computer, a pastime he thoroughly enjoyed. Above all, Darden cherished time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who were the pride and joy of his life.

He is survived by his daughter, Darla Lewis and husband Tim of Galveston; son, Derek Fletcher and wife Karri of Whitesboro; and son, Dyfan Fletcher of Ovilla. He leaves behind twelve grandchildren: Jonathan Fletcher, Kenny Landis, Kelsey Landis, Jarod Fletcher, Garren Fletcher, Meg Fletcher, Bailey Lewis, Max Lewis, Hunter Fletcher, Tyler Rigsby, Chance Rigsby, and Wyatt Rigsby; and seven great-grandchildren: Daxton, Bowen, Banks, Quinn, Mack, Piper, and Harper. He is also survived by his brother, Dr. C.T. Fletcher; nephews, Josh Fletcher, Todd Fletcher, and Brett Fletcher; and great-nephew and niece, Aiden and Abbey.

Darden was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Gladys Fletcher, and by his beloved wife, Nancy Fletcher.
Pallbearers will be Hunter Fletcher, Max Lewis, Jarod Fletcher, Garren Fletcher, Jonathan Fletcher, and Kenny Landis.
Funeral services honoring Darden will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, March 9, 2026, at North Union Street Church of Christ, officiated by Mike Bentley. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Whitesboro.  A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, March 8, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Turrentine, Jackson, Morrow Funeral Home of Whitesboro (formerly Meador Funeral Home).

Darden will be remembered for his steady devotion to his family, his quiet strength, his faithful service, and the gentle spirit that touched all who knew him.
