Alice Jeanne Trego
Alice Jeanne Trego
Alice Jeanne Trego of Whitesboro, Texas, went home to be with her Lord on February 15, 2026, at the age of 96. Her life was not measured merely in years, but in faith lived, love given, and souls encouraged to walk closer with God.
Born on September 21, 1929, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Orville Lee and Kathleen Edith (Woggan) Wymore, Alice grew up rooted in faith. She graduated from West High School in Waterloo and, in 1949, married her beloved husband, Gilbert Leroy Trego. Their marriage was a testament to commitment, grace, and partnership - seven children, a home built on prayer, and a legacy of love that continues in grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Alice worked diligently as a switchboard operator for Southwestern Bell and later for Montgomery Wards, pouring her heart into her work while always keeping her family at the center of her world. But more than any job title, she was first and foremost a woman of God.
Her faith wasn’t something she whispered only on Sundays, it was who she was. She devoted herself to being a leader in Bible Study Fellowship, sang joyfully in the church choir, served faithfully with the Prison Ministry, and cared for her church library with great detail, gentleness and purpose. Her walk with Christ was steady, humble, and contagious; so much so that anyone who knew her saw Christ in her actions long before they heard it in her words.
At home, she delighted in the simple things: crocheting and sewing thoughtful gifts, tackling daily crossword puzzles, and taking her walks with a steady step and an observant heart. Alice’s strength was quiet but sure. Although she could, Alice didn’t have to speak loudly to be heard, her life spoke for her.
She is survived by her son, Charles Trego; daughters, Carol Groseclose and Kathy Dutton; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry her legacy of faith and love forward.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Kathleen Wymore; her beloved husband, Gilbert Trego; her sons, James, John, Jerald, and Edward Trego; her brother, Andrew Wymore; and her sister, Mary Davis.
A memorial service to celebrate Alice’s life will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, February 19, 2026 at First Baptist Church, 129 Center Street, Whitesboro, TX 76273.
Graveside interment will be scheduled at a later date after cremation arrangements.
Alice lived with purpose, loved without reservation, and gave her life to lifting others toward Christ. We will miss her every day, and we are better because she was ours.
