Arlie “Jake” Kilcrease

Arlie J. Kilcrease, lovingly known as “Jake,” passed away peacefully on August 1, 2025, at the age of 92. He was born on July 23, 1933, in Baker, Florida, to Robert and Ruby Kilcrease, and lived a remarkable life full of purpose, service, and deep love for his family and community.

A proud graduate of Baker High School, Jake began his professional journey in 1951 as a fingerprint classifier for the FBI in Washington, D.C. In 1952, he answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Air Force. Following his military service, he married the love of his life, Ellen Marie Brock, on August 17, 1956 in Fontana, California, a union that would become the cornerstone of a strong and loving family.

Jake’s career as an engineer took him across the globe and through some of the most innovative organizations of his time. In 1956, he worked as a field engineer in England and later continued his education at the University of Oklahoma (1958). In 1963, he began working for Collins Radio which led his career to MCI Communications in 1972, followed by positions with Rockwell International and Alcatel Network Systems, where he helped develop tele-communication systems that continue to shape the modern world.

While his career was impressive, his greatest legacy was the one he built at home. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 69 years, Ellen Marie Kilcrease, and their five sons and families: David Lee Kilcrease (Dee) of Richardson, Texas; Mike Kilcrease of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; Steve Kilcrease (Angela) of Hurst, Texas; Paul Kilcrease (Athena) of Sherman, Texas; and Larry Kilcrease (Ashley) of Allen, Texas. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Kilcrease (Roseman) of Springfield, Ohio.

Jake was a proud grandfather to Travis Kilcrease, Marie (Patrick) Smith, Collin (Paige) Kilcrease, John Michael Kilcrease, Katie Kilcrease, Victoria Whitehurst, Jacqueline Kilcrease, Atticus Kilcrease, Eugene Woods, Alex Jewell, and Kelsey Willsie. He also leaves behind ten cherished great-grandchildren.

Jake had a special love for the simple joys of country life, especially his cows and dogs. He often gave his animals humorous and affectionate names like “Little Dog, Big Dog, and Doorbell aka Duchess” as for his cattle, “Meanie, Ringeyed, and Doubled Ringeyed.” Tending to his herd and playing with his dogs brought him endless joy, and his playful nicknames were just another reflection of his warmth and sense of humor.

A man of deep faith, Jake was a member, Deacon, and Elder of Sherwood Shores Chapel, where he served faithfully for many years. He created long-lasting memories traveling with Ellen throughout their many years. Their trips took them across the world, whether it was Paris, France or the RV, but nothing beats spending time with his family at the yellow lake house, family farm and gardening.

Jake’s quiet strength, wisdom, and unwavering love will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered.

Funeral services honoring Jake will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 8, 2025 at Sherwood Shores Chapel, officiated by Rev. Boby Baker. Interment will follow at Gordonville Cemetery. No formal visitation is planned.
