This Sunday is Mother’s Day, a time to celebrate the special women in our lives who, in one way or another, fill the role of “Mother.” A popular way for women to come together and celebrate this special occasion is with a ladies’ tea party.

Last Sunday, from 2-4 p.m., representatives from local businesses/organizations and their guests attended a lovely Mother’s Day tea party at Cook’s Main Stage in downtown Whitesboro.
Hosted by owner Laura Cook, the event brought in around 100 people. Each group was in charge of decorating their own table and bringing a food item to share. Table themes ranged from Cinco de Mayo and Butterfly Garden to Steel Magnolias and pink roses.

Ladies wore everything from sun dresses to pantsuits, some donning fascinators and large hats. They visited and enjoyed a buffet of finger foods and sweets and lemonade, iced and hot tea while trumpetist Paul Terrell and two women’s barbershop quartets performed live music in the background.

Local photographer Deni Jo Baker with DJB Productions was on-site taking photos of guests. Door prizes gifted by Cook’s Mercantile and The Leopard Antler were given away. Guests could also vote on Best Hat, Best Dressed, Best Table and Most Original Table.

The event was an opportunity to recognize local businesses and also celebrate moms.

“I’d like to take a moment and give a shout-out to all the moms that are here in the room,” Cook announced. “What you do is important, and you really do make a difference.”

This was the second year Cook has hosted this event, and guests were already discussing table theme and food ideas for next year.
