The Whitesboro community is mourning the loss of 52-year-old Tisha Muntz, a mother and former Whitesboro ISD teacher who was killed last week in a head-on collision on Hwy. 377 just north of town.

According to investigators, at approximately 7:15 a.m. on Oct. 29, 37-year-old Christopher Cudd of Denton was traveling north in a GMC Sierra pickup when he attempted to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone. Authorities say the pickup struck Muntz’s southbound Kia Sorento head-on.

Muntz died at the scene. Cudd reportedly sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital. The highway remained closed for several hours, and the investigation is ongoing.

Muntz was a beloved member of the Whitesboro community, having taught at multiple campuses in WISD over the course of several years. She also served as a cheer sponsor, leaving a lasting impact on generations of students.

In the wake of her passing, Whitesboro Athletics spoke with members of its cheer squads, who ultimately decided to postpone their senior pep rally scheduled for Oct. 30. A new date has not yet been announced.

Muntz was preceded in death by her husband, Wade, who passed away two years ago. She leaves behind three daughters: Peyton, a teacher; Allison, a graduate student at the University of Oklahoma; and Lauren, a junior at Whitesboro High School.

A celebration of life was held Monday, Nov. 2, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church.

Muntz’s obituary can be found on page 4 of this issue.
