The Whitewright Area Chamber of Commerce has announced the cancellation of its annual Fall Festival, originally scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 7, citing a shortage of volunteers and the challenges of coordinating multiple community events.

In an email to the Chamber members, board director Al Spaulding said the organization regretted having to cancel the event but lacked the manpower needed to organize the festival.

Earlier this year, one of the Chamber’s board members stepped away due to family obligations, leaving an already small group of volunteers with additional responsibilities, the email said.

Spaulding said the Chamber’s busy fall calendar, which includes a golf tournament, Halloween activities and the annual Christmas parade, also contributed to the decision.

The Chamber’s board of directors apologized for the cancellation and expressed appreciation for the community’s understanding.

Vendors who had planned to participate in the Fall Festival are being invited to take part in the Chamber’s Shells & Tails event next spring.

Despite the cancellation, the Chamber plans to move forward with its remaining holiday activities.

The community Trick-or-Treat event is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 31, at 5:30 p.m., while the annual Christmas parade is set for Saturday, Dec. 5.

Spaulding said the Chamber looks forward to continuing to serve the Whitewright community through those events.
