Whitewright City Hall will be closed temporarily in November, with services relocated to the Visitor’s Center, for much needed improvements and repairs.
According to Mayor Sarah Beth Owen, City Hall will be closed the week of Veterans Day in order to undergo some planned renovations.
“These improvements will better serve the public,” Owen said. “It has been a dozen years since we have had any work done at City Hall, and these repairs are greatly needed.”
According to Owen, repairs planned include new paint in the interior offices, new flooring and a total rebuild of the service window that will allow two customers to be attended to at a time.
“We also plan to install a speaker and microphone system so folks can better communicate at the window,” Owen said.
Work will begin after business hours on Friday, Nov. 6.
City Hall will be closed Nov. 9-13.
“Veterans Day is already a city holiday,” Owen said. “So, we are really just closing four workdays.”
But she said utility customers will still be able to make payments in a timely manner.
“All city services will be moved to the Visitor’s Center at 113 West Main Street, so you can come and pay your utility bill— whatever you need to do,” Owen said.
The total project cost is right at $20,000.
It has been a budgeted expense, split between last year and this year’s fiscal budgets.
The work will be done by Gage and Isabella Custom Homes, of Addison.
“We are excited about these new upgrades for our citizens,” Owen said. “We appreciate everyone’s understanding and willingness to relocate with us for just a few days. At the end of the day, these repairs and upgrades will serve our citizens.”
