On Sept. 29, the Whitesboro Police Department (WPD) announced it has been made aware of a phone scam currently targeting members of the community.
In this scam, a caller tells the person on the other end of the line that they are affiliated with a local bank. They then ask the individual to confirm or provide personal or financial information.
The WPD encourages everyone to use caution when receiving an unsolicited call requesting account information, passwords, PIN numbers, verification codes, Social Security numbers or other personal information. It is best to never provide or confirm information to an unsolicited caller.
Anyone who receives a questionable call from someone claiming to be from their bank should hang up and contact the bank directly using a trusted phone number.
The WPD asks people to share this information with family members, friends and especially anyone who may be more vulnerable to these types of scams. Stay
alert and protect your personal information.
