After suffering their first loss of the season two weeks ago, the Whitesboro Bearcats needed to find a way to bounce back last week.
They did so in dominant fashion.
Whitesboro (4-1) rebounded from a 42-32 loss to Sanger by running past Holliday, 52-14, last Friday in Whitesboro.
As a result, the Bearcats head into this week’s bye on a positive note. Whitesboro returns to the field Oct. 9 when it opens District 5-3A Division I play at Life Oak Cliff.
Quarterback Colt Fagan accounted for 201 yards and three touchdowns against Holliday. He passed for 146 yards and two touchdowns and ran 11 times for 55 yards and a score.
Scout Regelean led the Bearcats’ rushing attack with 78 yards and a touchdown on four carries. Camron Howard added a 52-yard touchdown run, Brody Wooten scored on a 15-yard run and Justin Knight finished with 49 yards on 19 carries.
Ian Bruce was Whitesboro’s top receiver with four catches for 75 yards and a touchdown. Howard added three catches for 25 yards, while Wyatt Winchester had two catches for 27 yards and a touchdown.
Korbin Ross led the Bearcats’ defense with 12 tackles and returned a fumble for a touchdown. Wooten had five tackles, a blocked punt, forced fumble and fumble recovery; Elias Degraffenreed totaled 10 tackles; and Shayne Gabbert finished with nine tackles and an interception.
For the season, Fagan has thrown for 892 yards and 11 touchdowns while rushing for 176 yards and six scores. Knight leads the ground game with 443 yards and five touchdowns, while Regelean has 213 yards and four scores.
Howard leads the receiving corps with 33 catches for 419 yards and three touchdowns. Bruce has nine catches for 243 yards and five touchdowns, while Winchester has eight receptions for 135 yards and three scores.
Ross leads the defense with 60 tackles, four tackles for loss, three fumble recoveries and an interception. Degraffenreed has 57 tackles, six tackles for loss and three sacks; Gabbert has 49 tackles and two interceptions; and Regelean has 20 tackles, seven tackles for loss and three sacks.
Victor Chavez has added 31 tackles and four tackles for loss on defense while making two of two field-goal attempts and 19 of 20 extra-point attempts.
