The Whitesboro community is grieving the loss of Lucca Dill, a WISD first-grader who died in a car accident Monday morning near Pilot Point.

The boy’s older sister, Zoey, a WISD fourth-grader, was transported to a Dallas hospital while his mother, Daniela, was taken to a Denton hospital to receive care for their injuries. Both were expected to be released to go home this week.

The school district released a statement Monday afternoon that extra counselors would be available at the Early Childhood Center (which serves children in grades pre-k through first) to provide support for students and staff.

“This is a tragic time and will impact students differently, and that’s ok,” the statement read. “Parents that are comfortable beginning this conversation, feel free to do so; parents that would like assistance or guidance, please feel free to contact any school counselor and they can provide resources and assistance as well.”

Friends and family are encouraging the community to rally around the Dill family during this unimaginable time. Monetary donations and gift cards are being accepted on their behalf, and a Memorial Account in the name of Lucca Dill has been set up at First State Bank. Additionally, Legend Bank in Whitesboro has a donation jar for contributions.

For more information about donations and ways to support the family, contact Brittany Kirby at 903-818-3375.
