It’s déjà vu for the Collinsville football team Friday night.
Once again, the Pirates are involved in a battle of the undefeated. After handing Muenster its first loss of the season last week, Collinsville (4-0) hits the road again to face fellow unbeaten Alvord (4-0) at 7 p.m. Friday in Alvord.
“They are a lot like Muenster with their formations and plays. They have very good offensive and defensive line players and have a running back that runs the ball very hard,” said Garrett Patterson, Collinsville Head Coach. “It will be another challenge for us this week coming off the win at Muenster. it will be another great test for our kids upfront.”
The Bulldogs are coming off a 28-6 victory against Era last week. Cutter Hamilton ran for 216 yards and four touchdowns in the win, while the defense recorded seven sacks.
Hamilton and Kamper Barnes are the leading rushers. The defensive leaders are defensive linemen Jagar and Jaxon Simmons.
“Their base offense is 11/12 personnel (spread) with variations of gap schemes and zones,” Patterson said. “Defensively, they base out of a four-man front but can get into a three-man (front) if the situation deems.”
In last week’s win at Muenster, Collinsville rallied from a 47-35 deficit to win, 50-47. Quarterback Paxton Davidson passed for 371 yards and five touchdowns, while running for 125 yards and two scores.
“We just kept fighting and just needed the ball to bounce our way. We had some critical moments in the game where our kids played with great effort and that helped the ball bounce our way in the fourth.”
Jaxon Spivey (16 catches, 134 yards, TD) and Caysen Schafer (12 catches, 129 yards, 2 TDs) were the Pirates’ top receivers. Carter Larance (3 catches, 55 yards, TD) and Briar Whisenant (5 catches, 53 yards, TD) also contributed.
Last Friday’s contest also featured a battle of wits between two Collinsville alumni. Patterson and Muenster coach Brady Carney both graduated from CHS.
“There is so much respect for each other and the programs we run, it’s never about bragging or one upping, just competition between two great programs,” Patterson said.
