There will be one more dress rehearsal for the Whitesboro football team Friday night.
The Bearcats’ final nondistrict game of the 2026 season starts at 7 p.m. Friday at Bearcat Stadium when they host winless Holliday (0-4). Whitesboro (3-1) also comes into Friday’s contest off a loss – 42-32 – against Class 4A Sanger Sept. 17.
In last week’s loss, the Bearcats fell behind 32-17 at halftime before battling back with consecutive touchdown drives sandwiched between a defensive stop to tie the game at 32. But Sanger (4-0) used a field goal, a touchdown and two defensive stops to clinch the victory.
Colt Fagan passed for 137 yards and a touchdown, while running for 38 yards and two scores. Justin Knight (21 carries, 81 yards) and Scout Regelean (7 carries, 32 yards, TD) contributed to the running game, while Camron Howard (9 catches, 56 yards) and Wyatt Winchester (2 catches, 37 yards, TD) were the top receivers for Whitesboro.
The Indians were simply too much for the Bearcats, though. Austin Martin (175 yards, TD passing; 9 carries, 89 yards, 2 TDs), Abimbola (22 carries, 122 yards, TD rushing), Wyatt Pennington (8 catches, 146 yards) and Niko Beck (2-2 FG, 4-5 PAT) led the way for Sanger.
Whitesboro now turns its attention toward Holliday. The Eagles have yet to win but were close in a 46-45 loss to Childress last week.
Holliday has used two quarterbacks – freshman Creed Brown and junior Landon Jones – this season. Brown has thrown for 344 yards and two touchdowns and run for 110 yards and three scores, while Jones has 448 yards and four scores passing to go with 46 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
The leading rusher is Brayden Hamill (233 yards, TD). The top receivers are Hudson Dray (11 catches, 301 yards, 2 TDs), Nathan Connor (11 catches, 133 yards, TD) and Preston Fandler (5 catches, 135 yards, 2 TDs).
Hamill (26 tackles) also plays linebacker. Other defensive stars for the Eagles are defensive tackle Jeremiah Cummins (22 tackles, 3 TFLs, 3 sacks) and defensive backs Paxton Pepps (33 tackles, 5 TFLs) and Trynt Palmer (26 tackles).
Following Friday’s game, Whitesboro has a bye Oct. 2 before opening District 5-3A Division I play Oct. 9 at Dallas Life Oak Cliff.”
