Triple R Barbecue: Built on family, fueled by passion

Whitewright - Triple R Barbecue is a place built from pure passion where you can eat hickory smoked barbeque that’s said to be “a few fingers better than finger-lickin’ good.” 

Since May of 2010, Richard Hunter and his wife, Donna, have owned and operated Triple R Barbecue with their family, including their daughter, Lark Sands, who serves as general manager. 

Triple R Barbecue’s knack for making delicious barbeque started with Richard, whose passion for barbecue runs deep. He worked in the barbecue industry for 27 years while passing the same love and passion for barbecuing to his daughter. Sands had worked with him at another barbeque joint on and off throughout the years and together they have over a decade of hands-on experience of perfecting their craft. 

After working for someone else for over two decades, Richard decided he wanted to build a barbecue joint of his own. Triple R Barbecue is a family-owned and -operated barbecue buffet located in Whitewright, Texas. Open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7:59 p.m., they serve traditional Texas style barbecue and more. They offer eight different hickory smoked meats including brisket, ribs, chicken breasts, jalapeno sausage and more. 

They smoke the meat with care in an Old Hickory pit daily and overnight, cooking it over locally cut and seasoned hickory logs. Each day they make a large variety of fresh sides for customers to choose from, as well as their specially crafted homemade barbeque sauce. 

They offer dine-in, drive-thru, delivery and full-service catering. Looking toward the future, Sands says that they are excited for continued growth. She says that they have grown a little bit every year, but business really picked up after 2020. Triple R Barbecue is ready to welcome more customers in and continue their family’s passion for serving delicious barbecue to the community.
