The Whitewright Lady Tigers will enter District 13-2A play next week with a 22-7 record after navigating a challenging non-district schedule and three tournaments.
Whitewright closes its non-district schedule with matches at Paris on Tuesday and Saint Jo on Friday before opening district play at Lindsay on Sept. 22.
The Lady Tigers have built momentum after suffering consecutive three-set losses to Van Alstyne and Leonard. Whitewright responded with three straight victories, sweeping Pottsboro before defeating Dodd City and Pilot Point in four sets.
Whitewright also closed its tournament schedule with a strong showing at the Saint Jo Tournament.
After losing its opening match to FCA, the Lady Tigers worked their way into the Gold Championship Bracket with victories over Chico, Detroit and Seymour. Whitewright then defeated future district opponent Collinsville to advance to the championship match.
Several players have contributed to Whitewright’s 22-win start.
Demi Lewis, Julianne Trotter and Piper Morrison have led the attack at the net, while Trotter, Aubrey Pettit and Kendall Sharpe have been among the team’s defensive leaders in digs.
Lewis and Morrison have provided the Lady Tigers’ top blocking presence, while Lewis, Pettit and Trotter have led the team from the service line. Pettit and Reese Henderson have handled much of the setting duties and led Whitewright in assists.
JV has also shown improvement during the non-district schedule.
The JV Lady Tigers are 4-10 after snapping an early three-match losing streak with a three-set victory over Pilot Point. They also went 3-1 on the opening day of the Saint Jo Tournament with victories over Alvord, Tishomingo and Saint Jo.
With the non-district portion of the schedule nearly complete, the varsity Lady Tigers now have two final tuneups before turning their attention to district play and a road match against Lindsay.
