A week after proving it could run the football against run-heavy Bells, Whitesboro proved it could dominate on defense with a 51-0 victory over Bridgeport.
The Bearcats posted their first shutout of the season in dominant fashion. Whitesboro (3-0) allowed just nine yards of total offense, including minus-13 rushing yards, while recording 10 tackles for loss and seven sacks.
Elias Degraffenreed, Ayce Nelson and Scout Regelean each had two sacks. Degraffenreed added three tackles for loss, while Nelson and Regelean had two apiece. Victor Chavez led the Bearcats with 10 tackles.
Whitesboro was equally dominant on offense.
Colt Fagan completed 7 of 10 passes for 187 yards and two touchdowns. Ian Bruce and Wyatt Winchester caught touchdown passes of 43 and 40 yards, respectively, on their only receptions of the game.
Camron Howard led Whitesboro with four catches for 63 yards.
Justin Knight led the rushing attack with 84 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries. Fagan added 24 yards and a touchdown on eight carries, while Regelean had six yards and a score on eight attempts. Dominic Ramos scored on his only carry, a 19-yard run.
The Bearcats now turn their attention to another unbeaten opponent as Sanger (3-0) comes to town for a rare Thursday night matchup. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Bearcat Stadium.
Bola Ogunwuyi leads the Indians’ ground game with 672 yards and six touchdowns. He also has two catches for 32 yards and a score.
Austin Martin has rushed for 315 yards and three touchdowns while throwing for 296 yards and a score. Wyatt Pennington leads Sanger’s receivers with 14 catches for 171 yards, while Luke Hendricks has 11 receptions for 90 yards.
Sanger has yet to allow 30 points in a game.
Dezmond Sampson leads the Indians’ defense with 28 tackles, including 10 tackles for loss, and four sacks. Hendricks has 28 tackles, Max Taylor has 29 tackles with four tackles for loss and two sacks, and James Cook has 25 tackles, seven tackles for loss and two sacks.
