Whitewright residents will have an opportunity to dispose of bulky household items during the city’s Community Clean-Up Day on Saturday, Sept. 26.
The event will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., or until collection capacity is reached, at the City Barn, 401 S. Benedict Ave. Residents will be limited to two loads per household and must bring a water bill receipt as proof of residency.
The city will accept furniture, sofas, stoves, water heaters, appliances that do not contain Freon and other bulky items that cannot be collected through regular sanitation service.
Small items must be placed in disposable boxes or plastic bags. Loose trash will not be accepted. Lumber must be tied in bundles weighing less than 50 pounds each.
Several types of waste will not be accepted, including tires, motor oil, aerosols, weed killers, household chemicals, oil-based or latex paint, paint thinner and solvents, batteries, antifreeze, oil filters and roofing shingles.
The city also will not accept cross-ties, concrete, bricks, rocks, dirt, televisions, computer monitors or items containing Freon.
Because collection will end once available capacity is reached, residents planning to participate may want to arrive before the scheduled 1 p.m. closing time.
