The Whitesboro Independent School District board of trustees voted this month to adopt an ordinance to set the 2026-2027 tax rate of $0.7499 for the purpose of maintenance and operations and $0.3760 for the purpose of payment of principal and interest in debt for a total rate of $1.1259.
The decision was made following a public hearing during which Assistant Superintendent Ryan Prock discussed the district’s 2026 property values and presented the budget by function code. No public comments were presented, and the board approved the tax rate and budget unanimously.
Also during this meeting, the board unanimously approved an amendment to the school district’s employee and student dress code. As a result, students and staff may now wear nose piercings of a single stud only, and tattoos may be visible as long as they are not deemed inappropriate by school administration.
Additionally, WRA, Gallagher and Drake Construction companies gave reports on the ongoing school bond construction projects within the district. The Early Childhood Center (ECC), which opened Aug. 13 as planned, is 99% complete. A google document has been created for staff to document items that need to be repaired or fixed. The Career and
Technical Education (CTE) building and multi-purpose facility are both dealing with slight delays, while the new Ag facility is on track to meet expected goals. In fact, this week, staff should be able to create their list of items to be repaired or fixed.
Lastly, the board delegated contractual authority to obligate the school district to the superintendent under Texas Education Code. This essentially outlines that the board of trustees must ensure the superintendent is accountable for achieving performance results, recognizes performance accomplishments and takes necessary actions to meet performance goals. This section emphasizes the board’s role in overseeing the superintendent’s effectiveness in managing the school district’s performance. The motion carried unanimously.
