The Keep Whitesboro Beautiful (KWB) general meeting was held at FUMC Wesley Hall on Thursday, Aug. 13. President Mark Wennstedt welcomed members and guests, called the meeting to order and led the opening prayer. Eighteen members and one guest attended.
The June meeting minutes were approved unanimously; there had been no July general meeting because of the Summer Social. The Treasurer’s Report was given and unanimously approved.
Committee updates included the July 9 Summer Social, which had approximately 36 attendees and featured picnic food, Beach Bingo, Beach Trivia, prizes and entertainment. Former members renewed their memberships, and new members joined. The Gala was announced for Feb. 12, 2027, at Cook’s Main Stage, with Ben Edwards as DJ. Food, fundraising items and sponsors are still to be decided. The Downtown Christmas event will include a parade; free cocoa, coffee and popcorn; a photo with Santa, and much more. Volunteers will be needed to work the event.
Under new business, preparations continued for the Oct. 17 Peanut Festival. Volunteers are being recruited for the KWB booth, where membership forms, T-shirts, KWB bags and donated Beanie Babies will be available. Shirts from years past and bags will sell for $5, while Beanie Babies will have a minimum $5 donation. Newly designed shirts will be available as well. KWB is also looking into accepting electronic payments through Square.
KWB will purchase new fall and Christmas decorations for downtown because previous decorations have deteriorated. An Adopt-a-Highway cleanup is planned for the first Saturday in November.
Keep Whitesboro Beautiful meets the second Thursday of the month. The next general meeting is scheduled for Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. at FUMC Wesley Hall. Everyone is welcome to attend.
