2 Corinthians 7:10 AMP
“…worldly sorrow [the hopeless sorrow of those who do not believe] produces death.”
As I contemplated hopeless sorrow, I looked up and saw a rope swinging in the wind. It was on a flagpole, attached at the top but ripped in two in the middle. I watched it blowing with the breeze, untethered and unconnected.
This is what hopeless sorrow looks like. It is attached to regret, but lacking an anchor, a stabilizing presence.
How often have I wallowed in hopeless sorrow? I experience pain in my life and, instead of fastening the rope of connection to the anchor of Christ, I let it swing, unhindered, taking my emotions on a wild goose chase. As the winds of adversity blow wherever they choose, my sorrow is subjected to their whims. This is surely not a sorrow that leads to life.
As I find myself tossed, I can further lament my situation, or I can tie myself to the firm foundation of the Almighty. I can allow His truth to permeate the situation, altering my perspective. This repentance, changing my mind, leads to life.
When you find yourself experiencing the difficulties and hurts of this earthly existence, turn to the anchor. Tie yourself to the truth and let His word change the way you think!
May the God of peace transform your heart and mind!
