Jennifer and I have discussed it, and we both agree.
We are over it. We are over summer.
This might be a Debbie Downer approach, but after July 4th, we believe summer should just be done.
Nurseries have marked plants down to 50%, back to school supplies line the store shelves and extracurricular commitments are kicking up for the school year.
Summer should be over, but it’s not.
We have forecasted highs over 100 this week, and I can only predict that we have another full month of relentless temperatures before we get a break.
But it is what it is, and we live where we live— and we persist.
Fall cannot get here quick enough— and with that— football games, tailgates and seasonal treats.
Jennifer is ready for pumpkin spice season.
I am ready for Oktoberfest season.
We are looking ahead to fall here at the News-Record, too.
High school football practices will soon be underway, and we will soon be covering them.
With that, we will be taking a different approach to our annual football preview this year.
Every year since 2009, the News-Record has partnered with papers in Cooke County to bring what we called the “North Central Texas Football Preview.”
We headed west with our coverage.
We are changing that this year.
With our recent acquisition of the Whitewright Sun, and growing footprint in Grayson County, we are staying here and focusing on that.
We are going east.
What does that mean?
On Aug. 28, we will publish what promises to be the most definitive high school football preview available about all Grayson County schools and Callisburg.
Yes, we will have our regular schools here in the west— Whitesboro, Collinsville, Tioga and S&S.
And we have our new schools in the east— Whitewright, Bells and Tom Bean.
But, for this preview, we will fill the gaps, too.
We will preview Gunter, Van Alstyne and Howe.
Then we’ll also preview Sherman, Denison and Pottsboro.
And, not to be left out, the Callisburg Wildcats will make the cut too as they are our county line neighbors.
We have employed some of the best sports writers I know to help produce this product.
We promise great photography and in-depth interviews with each of the football coaches.
Our coverage will include all of Grayson County and the new publication will be called the “Grayson County Gridiron Guide.”
This creates an amazing marketing opportunity for small businesses.
Unlike anything we have ever had here before, more eyes than ever will see our football preview than ever.
Which means business owners will have more value than ever in this product.
