The spirit of America was on full display as residents and visitors gathered at Cedar Mills Marina & Resort to celebrate Independence Day during the “Cheers to 250 Years” July 4th Parade, a festive tribute filled with patriotism, community pride and hometown charm.

The celebration began with the unmistakable wail of the Sherwood Shores Fire Department sirens, as fire trucks proudly led the parade from the north entrance of Cedar Mills Marina. The procession wound its way around the West Cove, through the Middle Cove and past the Ship’s Store, where enthusiastic spectators lined the route waving flags and cheering “USA!”

Adding an unexpected burst of excitement was the thunderous roar of Race Car No. 33, owned by Keith and Cameron Nottingham, whose powerful engine thrilled the crowd as it rolled through the marina. Following close behind came an impressive lineup of patriotically decorated UTVs, golf carts, Jeeps, pickup trucks and colorful floats, each showcasing red, white and blue creativity.

Among the parade’s most memorable entries was a rolling swimming pool carrying young children enjoying the holiday. The float became even more special as it celebrated the birthday of a toddler born on the Fourth of July, delighting parade-goers with smiles and laughter.

A surprise appearance by Elvis Presley—portrayed by a talented local performer—brought a wave of nostalgia as he serenaded the crowd with “America the Beautiful.” His heartfelt performance stirred emotions and evoked cherished memories.

Bigfoot even emerged in the midst of the excitement wearing a patriotic top hat.  He agreed Texas was a little warm for him, but he was so happy to join the celebration.

As the parade continued, participants tossed beads, floating toys and candy to eager children and families gathered along the route, creating a joyful atmosphere for all ages.

The celebration reached a patriotic crescendo as the sounds of brass horns, woodwinds, flutes and pounding drums filled the air with the National Anthem. American flags waved proudly overhead against the scenic backdrop of Lake Texoma, providing a picture-perfect reminder of the freedoms and unity celebrated on Independence Day.

The “Cheers to 250 Years” parade brought together neighbors, friends and visitors in a memorable display of community spirit, honoring the nation’s enduring heritage while creating new traditions and lasting memories along the shores of Lake Texoma.
