Grayson County homeowners now have an opportunity to receive financial assistance to help protect their families during severe weather.

The Grayson County Office of Emergency Management announced that applications are now being accepted for a residential safe room rebate program funded through the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Texas Division of Emergency Management.

The program provides a rebate covering 50% of eligible installation costs and fees, up to a maximum of $3,000, for qualifying residential safe rooms or storm shelters.

To be eligible, applicants must own a single-family home in Grayson County and receive an official rebate award letter and eligibility-to-proceed notice before installing a safe room. Homes must also be located outside a locally mapped 100-year floodplain.

Safe rooms and storm shelters installed through the program must meet Federal Emergency Management Agency and ICC 500 design standards. Participants must also allow Grayson County Office of Emergency Management staff to conduct a site visit.

County officials encourage interested homeowners to review the program requirements before beginning construction to ensure they qualify for reimbursement.

Additional information about the rebate program is available through the Grayson County Office of Emergency Management by calling 903-813-5215 or emailing [email protected]. Information is also available on the Grayson County website.
