Local club woman Patricia Davis attended the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) of Texas Spring Convention in San Antonio, representing the three clubs in which she is a member – the History Club of Whitesboro, the North Texas Woman’s Club of Bells and the Lake Area Woman’s Club of Gordonville.

The spring convention recognizes clubs in the state for their volunteer efforts with programs and projects.

During the three-day convention, the Lake Area Woman’s Club won first place in 21 departments. Those were Arts and Culture, Education and Libraries, Civic Engagement, Environment, Health and Wellness, Yearbook, Legislation and Public Policy, Leadership, Membership, Advocates for Children, Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness and Prevention, the reading society – ESO,  Fundraising and Development, Legislation and Public Policy, Texas Heritage – People, the Texas President’s special project on Human Trafficking Awareness and Prevention, Outstanding Club Program, Outstanding Federation Day Program, Outstanding Americanism Program, Scholarship and Dollars for Delegates.

GFWC Texas gives a creativity award in seven categories. The Lake Area Woman’s Club won three of them. They were in Arts and Culture, Health and Wellness and Communications and Public Relations. The club received $25 for each award.

“Last year, we won five of the seven creativity awards, and no one could believe it,” Davis said. “The State President had to explain that none of the judges knew that another judge had awarded us a creativity award in their department. It was unheard of. That was our very first year as a club, too!”

The club is looking for women who would like to volunteer with local projects. If interested, please contact Patricia Davis at [email protected]

The General Federation of Women’s Clubs is a unifying force, bringing together local women’s clubs whose members are dedicated to strengthening their communities and enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service.

With more than 60,000 members in affiliated clubs in every state and more than a dozen countries, GFWC members are community leaders who work locally to create global change by supporting the arts, preserving natural resources, advancing education, promoting healthy lifestyles, encouraging civic involvement and working toward world peace and understanding.
