Acclaimed Texas singer-songwriter James McMurtry will headline the 52nd annual Collinsville Pioneer Day celebration on Saturday, Sept. 19.
He will headline the Holiday Chevrolet Main Stage at 9:30 p.m. and cap off a day of fun and entertainment for the entire family.
“We are thrilled to bring one of America’s most respected storytellers to downtown Collinsville for our community’s signature annual festival,” Pioneer Day chairman Austin Lewter said.
Known for his vivid character-driven songwriting and unmistakable Texas voice, McMurtry has built a career spanning more than three decades, earning praise from critics and fellow musicians alike.
His latest album, “The Black Dog & the Wandering Boy,” continues his tradition of crafting richly detailed songs inspired by family history, everyday people and the landscapes of America.
His work has been praised for blending literary storytelling with roots rock, Americana and folk influences, while younger artists such as Sarah Jarosz and Jason Isbell have cited him as a major influence on their own songwriting.
The son of acclaimed novelist Larry McMurtry, James McMurtry has long been recognized as one of Texas’ premier songwriters.
His live performances have earned a loyal following nationwide, with audiences drawn to his sharp wit, compelling lyrics and powerful stage presence.
Rolling Stone has called him “one of America’s greatest living songwriters,” while his songs continue to resonate with listeners through their authentic portrayals of small-town life, working people and the complexities of modern America.
McMurtry’s performance will serve as the centerpiece of Pioneer Day, Collinsville’s annual celebration of the town’s history and community spirit.
“In keeping with the America 250 celebration, this year’s festival theme is ‘Celebrating 250 Years of Heroes and Legends,’” Lewter said. “James McMurtry is definitely a living legend, and we are thrilled to have him.”
This year’s event will feature other live entertainment from the Band of Faith and The Whites of Texas as well as food vendors, local shopping, family fun for the kids and attractions throughout historic downtown.
Additional details, including performance times, vendor information and a complete schedule of Pioneer Day activities, will be announced as the event approaches.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to mark their calendars for Sept. 19 and make plans to experience an evening of outstanding Texas music while celebrating Collinsville’s most anticipated annual traditions.
