Local events celebrate America’s 250th

This weekend, the night sky will be lit up with fireworks as families across Texoma celebrate America’s 250th year of independence for the 4th of July. If you haven’t already made plans for this weekend’s festivities, here are some celebrations happening in the area you may want to check out.

 

Thursday, July 2

 

Sherman: Sherman’s 17th annual “Lights On the Lake” event at Pecan Grove Park will feature a live performance by Collective Soul.  This free event is a fun-filled, family-friendly Independence Day celebration. 

The park opens at 4 p.m. with DJ Midnight keeping the patriotic party going all day long. Collective Soul will take the stage around 7:30 p.m. Stick around when the sun goes down for a spectacular fireworks display to begin at 9:30 p.m., brought to you by Simmons Bank. Enjoy on-site vendors or pack your own picnic and round up your family and friends, grab your lawn chairs and enjoy this exciting Independence Day celebration.

Bonham: The City of Bonham and the Kiwanis Club of Bonham present the 45th Annual “Lights Over Lake Bonham” Fireworks Show. This year’s pyrotechnic extravaganza held at Lake Bonham Recreation Area gets underway at dusk. This popular annual event combines family fun at Lake Bonham with an awe-inspiring fireworks display. The Kiwanis Club of Bonham has been putting on this show since 1977.

Kingston, OK: Join the Lake Texoma Association as they celebrate the 250th birthday of America with one of Texoma’s most anticipated annual traditions. This spectacular community event draws thousands of residents and visitors to Lake Texoma for an unforgettable evening of patriotism, family fun and fireworks. The Fun Zone is open from 6:30-8:30 p.m. near Lake Texoma State Park and will feature delicious food trucks, kids’ activities, face painting, music, fun and more! Enjoy a fireworks show after dark. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets and besties!

Tioga: Come celebrate Independence Day with the Tioga Volunteer Fire Department for a fun-filled evening of community, food, entertainment and fireworks. This annual event will kick off with a parade beginning at 5:30 p.m. Food vendors will open at 6:15 p.m. and live music will begin at 6:30 p.m. The fireworks will start at dusk. Come celebrate America’s 250th with food vendors, family-friendly activities, community fellowship, a spectacular fireworks display and more!

Tom Bean:The City of Tom Bean will celebrate Independence Day with its annual Fourth of July Parade on Saturday, July 4.

The parade will begin at 10 a.m., with participants lining up in the Tom Bean Elementary School parking lot before following the community’s traditional parade route through town.

Residents are invited to decorate their vehicles, wave their flags and join neighbors in celebrating America’s birthday and the Tom Bean community. Spectators are encouraged to line the parade route and enjoy the annual tradition.

Denison: Get ready for an unforgettable 4th of July celebration as the City of Denison and Downtown Denison proudly present the Fourth of July Spectacular – Denison Celebrates America 250 at Munson Stadium.

This beloved community tradition is free and open to the public, making it the perfect family-friendly event! The festivities kick off in Forest Park beginning at 5 p.m., where visitors can explore the vendor area featuring food, beverages, local artisans and kid-friendly activities. Bring your friends and family early to soak up the excitement!

At 7:30 p.m., the celebration shifts to Munson Stadium for a special Music on Main concert featuring Local Legends. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets and get ready to enjoy a lively evening of music under the stars. The concert promises a great lineup of local talent and an energetic crowd, perfect for creating lasting memories.

As the sun sets, prepare for the grand finale—a spectacular fireworks show lighting up the Denison sky. You can watch from inside the stadium or from a cozy spot in the park.

Gunter: What better way to mark our country’s freedom than music, fireworks and a celebration with family, friends and neighbors? 

The Gunter Chamber of Commerce is presenting Fireworks in the Park from 6-10 p.m. at Gunter City Park. The City of Gunter is sponsoring the fireworks, and Mustang Special Utility District is sponsoring the music. The fireworks show is presented by Davis & Miller Fireworks Co. 

Activities include live music by Don Stalling and the Divided, food, vendors, kids’ activities, First Responder fundraiser and fireworks. No pets or alcohol allowed on the grounds. Admission is free.

Van Alstyne: Celebrate Independence Day with Van Alstyne’s Annual Firework Show! Join the community on July 4 at dusk at Van Alstyne Junior High School (1722 N Waco Street). Bring your family, friends and lawn chairs for an evening under the stars filled with patriotic spirit and a spectacular fireworks display you won’t want to miss! This event is presented by the Van Alstyne Parks and Recreation Department.

Pottsboro: Celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary with a spectacular 4th of July fireworks show! Enjoy an unforgettable display while honoring this historic milestone with the best seats on the water. This free event is held at Highport Marina at Lake Texoma (120 Texoma Harbor Drive in Pottsboro).
