To the publisher,
I read your article regarding Collinsville ISD and superintendent Matthew Davenport.
Unfortunately, this report is incorrect in multiple instances. A simple Google search will show you the three administrators under investigation (Matthew Davenport, Kim Patterson, Garrett Patterson) have not been cleared by the TEA. The investigation is ongoing, and this is reflected on all three educators certifications.
Additionally, your article references “inappropriate behavior between Coach Derrick Jenkins and a student.” I hope you can see how this statement shifts blame onto the student. Grooming is not “inappropriate behavior between a teacher and student” because the student is a child.
That being said, there were multiple students, and that has been explicitly stated in previous news reports.
These errors are seriously concerning considering the backlash that has been faced by those who have tried to report Derrick Jenkins for years. Please consider an official retraction and apology. Please also consider rethinking the words you use and how they place blame.
I’m happy to talk through this further if needed.
Thank you for your time,
Callie McDonald
