Memorial Day honored with ‘Taps’ at Trollinger Park

A special flag is flying at Trollinger Park in Whitesboro in celebration of our country’s 250th birthday. It is red, white and blue with 13 white stars representing the 13 original colonies that established the birth of our country.

The community  is invited to come and see it on Memorial Day during this year’s annual performance of “Taps” by local trumpeter Carol Golden.

During this year’s performance, Golden’s reflections are two-fold.

“I cannot help but think of the birth of this nation and all who selflessly left their homes to establish the land of the free and the home of the brave,” she said. “Our country’s founders first came to establish freedom in a new land and our country’s military exists to secure those freedoms.”

“Taps” is played on Memorial Day in honor of all men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice for their country. All across the United States at 3 p.m. in each American time zone, buglers/trumpeters are playing the 21-note resounding melody in honor of those that gave their all.

Golden will perform “Taps” at 3 p.m. on Monday, May 25, 2026 (Memorial Day) at the fountain at Trollinger Park. The community is invited to attend this gathering, and may all be mindful of why this day exists – to remember.
