Dominant pitching and out-hitting the opposition are things the S&S softball team did during the last three seasons.
The Lady Rams did the same thing May 8. The difference was the outcome.
Despite a dominant pitching performance from Hayden Mowrey, which consisted of 16 strikeouts and two hits surrendered, Hooks was able to get the best of S&S, 4-1, in a one-game playoff at Community High School in Nevada. The Lady Rams ended their season 23-6-1.
With the score tied, 1-1, in the top of the seventh inning, Libby Fisher hit a one-out triple before scoring the go-ahead run on a fielder’s choice. The Lady Hornets scored two more runs on an error to increase the lead to 4-1 before Peyton Morgan retired the side in the bottom of the seventh to clinch the game.
Stella Fincher hit a solo home run in the top of the first. Mowrey reached base on a walk before scoring the tying run on an error.
The score remained 1-1 until the fateful top of the seventh. The contest was the final high school softball game for seniors Mowrey, Tynslie Adcock, Saryn Dowell, Brooklyn Sterling and Lana Walters.
Dowell (2-4) and Izzie Talamantes (2-3, BB) led S&S at the plate. Adcock (1-3) also contributed.
