GRANDSONS RECUPERATING FROM KIDNEY TRANSPLANT
Two brothers who are the grandsons of Whitesboro residents Willard and Polly Judd, are recuperating following a life-saving kidney transplant recently at an Oklahoma City hospital.
Two weeks ago at the Oklahoma Memorial Hospital, 25-year-old Darryl Eppler received a kidney from his brother, Sgt. Daniel R. Eppler, 26, who serves in the U.S. Marine Corps in Yuma, AZ. They are the sons of Ray and Paula Eppler of Ardmore.
The hospital became like a second home for Darryl who began in November 1984 taking three, 3.5-hour dialysis treatments at the hospital every week. He left the hospital May 7 with hopes of never seeing a dialysis unit again, thanks to his brother Danny who donated one of his kidneys.
Darryl has had cystemic Lupus erythemotosis, a disease that causes part of the body to literally attack itself. It can be found in the nervous system, the heart, skin, lungs -- practically every part of the anatomy.
Darryl had begun thinking about a kidney transplant by Christmas of last year and was placed on a nationwide donor list at that time.
Then Darryl and Daniel discussed the transplant at Christmas time and Daniel said he was willing to give his brother one of his kidneys if the two men were matched donors.
Darryl’s transplant means an entire new outlook on life, and that beats dialysis any day of the week!
