West Grayson Retired School Personnel Association (WGRSPA) members Sharon Golden, Cece Meinholdt, Sue Barker and Sharon Lively joined Denise Barnes, a WGRSPA member currently employed by S&S CISD, and 68 S&S High School students at S&S Elementary School Wednesday morning to present books to the district’s third graders.

WGRSPA Book Project Committee member Golden coordinated the event with help from school personnel. The organization provided brand new copies of the book “Dogtown” by Katherine Applegate and Genifer Choldenko. This book was selected by librarian Jessica Campbell.

Barnes assigned high schoolers to introduce third graders to their very own copies of the book. The high school students who assisted were members of FCCLA, NHS, Student Council, the Child Development class and seniors.

The third graders were excited to receive the books and enjoyed having their high school buddy read it aloud to them nestled in the school’s hallway. In addition to the book, each student received a small gift box with a little dog inside provided by the FCCLA, a pencil from Barnes, a study sheet designed by Jasara Russell and a bookmark.

Third grade teachers are Shilo Davis, Diane Yost, Natalie Martin and India Champion. High school sponsors are Sharon Watson-Agumanu, Jasara Russell and Michelle Gressett. Teamwork made the project a success by encouraging young people to read books.
