KWB plans events, updates calendar

KWB plans events, updates calendar

At its April 9 meeting at First United Methodist Church Wesley Hall, Keep Whitesboro Beautiful (KWB) discussed upcoming events and a couple of calendar changes.

Looking ahead to the Downtown Christmas event in December, members Bobbie Erwin and Sharron Welch will serve as chairmen of the event committee.

The organization is in need of volunteers to serve as chairmen for downtown decorations, Peanut Festival and the KWB gala. Any member is welcome to offer to fill these roles.

A recent Trollinger Park Clean-Up was a great success, with six KWB members and approximately 30 Whitesboro High School students (members of National Honor Society and members of the Whitesboro Historical and Preservation Society) in attendance. With so many volunteers on hand, the project was completed quickly.

The group was reminded that the KWB E-Waste Collection event will take place from April 20-25 in the parking lot east of Past and Blast in downtown Whitesboro. Community members are encouraged to bring their old electronics and sporting equipment.

Then, on April 25 from 7:30 a.m.-2 p.m., citizens have another opportunity for spring cleaning. Grayson County Precinct 3 will host a Spring Clean-Up Day where residents can bring household items, appliances, furniture, scrap metal and tires to 300 Locust Street in Whitesboro. (Limit four items per household.)

The regularly scheduled KWB meeting for May has been moved from May 14 to May 21 at 6 p.m. so as not to conflict with the upcoming Whitesboro Community Choir Concert.

Also, the date for the KWB Adopt-a-Highway clean-up was changed from May 9 to May 16 so as not to conflict with the Whitesboro Area Chamber of Commerce “Miles for Mom” 5K, fun run and concert.
