One of the city’s most popular programs is the Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) Summer Camps. Each summer, the PARD hosts camps for children ages six to 11 years of age. The camps are held at the Jimmie O. Rector Community Center Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon (unless otherwise specified). There is no charge to participate in the camps.

Each week, camp activities are designed around a particular theme. There are daily arts, crafts, games, snacks and projects that relate to the themes. At the week’s end, campers celebrate with a pool party on Friday.

The PARD will host eight different camps this summer, with the camp kickoff on June 1.  Although there is no fee to participate in the camps, registration is necessary, as space is limited. Camp themes include the following: Polar Pals, Carnival, Seuss on the Loose, Camp Dino-mite (three-day camp), Once Upon a Summer (princess theme), Welcome to the Jungle and two camps of Art Week. The complete schedule is available on the PARD website and via their Facebook page, with dates and descriptions of each camp.

Registration will open for all camps on Friday, May 1. For the first time, registration will be conducted through the department’s new online platform, RecDesk. Families will visit the new site, Whitesboro.recdesk.com, and begin by creating an account. Once an account is created, users will add family members and then visit the program registration area to sign up for camps. Each child may only register for two camps. A link to the platform will also be available on the city’s website at Whitesboro.org/pard.

For more information about this and other summer programs and facilities, interested parties may visit the website.
