Early voting for Grayson County city council and school board elections begins Monday, April 20.
In our area, elections will be held for Whitesboro City Council, Southmayd City Council and the Collinsville Independent School District.
Ten people have filed for three open seats on the Whitesboro City Council:
David Bertino (incumbent)
Ronnie Fielder (incumbent)
Mike Pack (incumbent)
Ben Edwards
Jessica Edwards
Stephan Gardner
William “Brody” Hall
Ryan Jones
Charles “Tom” Leach
Caleb Mata
A candidate questionnaire for each of the folks on the ballot is available on page 12 of this issue of the News-Record.
Publisher Austin Lewter posed the same three questions to each candidate and allowed them up to 250-word responses for each question.
Responses were not altered and were printed verbatim.
Every candidate was contacted. Not all responded.
Whitesboro ISD only saw incumbents file with no challengers, so no election will be called.
Collinsville City Council had four file to fill four open seats, so no election will be called.
Collinsville ISD, however, will have one contested seat on the ballot:
Place 1 - Matt Weaver (incumbent) and Derek Kays (challenger)
Place 2- Ryan Patterson (incumbent)
Place 3 -Jared Light (incumbent)
At S&S CISD and Tioga ISD, each had three people file for three open seats, so no election will be called.
On the Southmayd City Council, five candidates are vying for three alderman seats:
Mark J Everett (incumbent)
Teresa Miller (incumbent)
Matthew Tanner (incumbent)
