EASTER EGG TRADITION SPANS FOUR GENERATIONS FOR VARLEY FAMILY
At least four generations of the Clarence and Norena Varley family of Collinsville have enjoyed a traditional family Easter egg hunt on Easter Sunday afternoon. The site of the family’s holiday romp is always the same, the banks off the creek which runs north and south through the 200 acre Varley farm located four miles northeast of Collinsville, at the end of Varley Road.
As the family’s oldest daughter, Wilma Varley Tutt feels the responsibility of continuing the family’s established traditions, and furthermore, she enjoys it.
“First, there is church. Then we always have a family dinner together,” she said. “Then most of the adults will go to the creek to hide the eggs.”
The family hides approximately 200 to 300 eggs with numerous “prize” eggs that are filled with various candies, treats, small toys and money.
