Last weekend, the Whitesboro High School (WHS) Academic UIL teams traveled to Ponder to compete at the District Meet where WHS was named back-to-back District Champions. Results are as follows:
Calculator: 2nd place team - Jeremy Krause, Steven Breidenstein, Abigail Snow and Kaylee Niles
Krause was the 1st place individual and advances to regionals. Breidenstein was 6th.
Computer Science: 1st place team (by nearly 500 points) - Ian Niles, Jeremy Krause, Siena Bensley and Jake Niles all advancing to regionals.
Individually, Ian was 1st, Krause was 2nd, Bensley was 3rd and Jake was 4th.
Copy Editing: Kaylee Niles was 1st advancing to regionals.
Lynette Crawford finished 5th.
Current Issues and Events: 1st place team - Harrison Glenn, Layke Cole, Cohen Deitsch, Jason Reed and Micah Velten advancing to regionals.
Glenn was 2nd place individually and Cole was 5th.
Feature Writing: Layla Carey placed 3rd individually and advances to regionals.
Headline Writing: Lynette Crawford was 2nd and Paisley Blevins was 3rd. Both advance to regionals.
Informative Speaking: Emma Hancock was 2nd, Micah Velten was 3rd and Jason Reed was 4th. Hancock and Velten advance to regionals and Reed is the first alternate.
Lincoln Douglas Debate: Emma Hancock was 3rd and Kaleah Debord was 5th. Hancock advances to regionals.
Literary Criticism: 1st place team - Kaylee Niles, Presley Lawson, Jilian Snow and Aubree Durham all advancing to regionals.
Niles finished in 1st place and Lawson finished in 2nd place.
Mathematics: 2nd place team - Steven Breidenstein, Jeremy Krause, Abigail Snow, Kaylee Niles and Brant Thompson.
Breidenstein finished 2nd individually and advances to regionals. Krause placed 4th and is the first alternate.
News Writing: Layla Carey placed 4th and is the first alternate to regionals.
Number Sense: 1st place team - Jeremy Krause, Steven Breidenstein, Thomas Maxwell and Ian Niles all advancing to regionals.
Individually, Krause was 2nd, Breidenstein was 4th and Maxwell was 5th.
Persuasive Speaking: Mason Pierson finished 2nd and advances to regionals. Ripley Harper finished in 5th.
Poetry: Olivia Shepard finished in 3rd and advances to regionals. Lauren Culligan finished in 5th.
Prose: Layla Carey was 1st, Ripley Harper was 2nd, Landry Harper was 3rd. All three advance to regionals.
Ready Writing: Lynette Crawford finished in 5th place.
Science: Steven Breidenstein finished first place and had the top chemistry score. Caden Brehm had the top physics score. Both advance to regionals.
Social Studies: Savanna Howard finished in 4th and Jason Reed finished in 5th.
WHS UIL will travel to Tyler to compete at Regionals on April 24-25.
