With municipal elections just over a month away, local cities are making plans for citizens to get to know City Council candidates at public forum opportunities.
In Whitesboro, 10 candidates are running for three open seats. Incumbents David Bertino, Ronnie Fielder and Mike Pack are being challenged by Ben Edwards, Jessica Edwards, Stephan Gardner, William B. Hall, Ryan Jones, Charles “Tom” Leach and Caleb Mata.
The City of Whitesboro will host a Candidate Forum on Thursday, April 9 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the First State Bank of Whitesboro. Hosted by Grayson County Commissioner Lindsay Wright, this will be a meet-and-greet format with each candidate having a table and chairs for citizens to come and hold one-on-one conversations with each person running for office.
The City of Collinsville will have no City Council election this year as candidates are running unopposed.
Meanwhile, the City of Southmayd has five candidates vying for three alderman seats. Incumbents are Mark J. Everett, Teresa Miller and Matthew Tanner. Challengers are Robert “Gene” Davis and Millie Rutherford.
The City of Southmayd will hold a Candidate Forum on Saturday, April 18 at 2 p.m. at the Southmayd Community Center. This will be an opportunity for citizens to hear candidates share their vision, learn about important local issues, ask questions and get involved.
Early voting begins April 20 and lasts until April 28. Election Day is May 2.
