PAIR OF S&S FFA MEMBERS WIN AREA AND STATE NOMINATIONS
The District VI FFA Association held is annual March meeting to elect its representatives for Area V FFA office and Texas FFA office. A pair of S&S FFA members competed along with other students from the district for area and state officer positions.

S&S FFA member Allison Fisher competed and won the election for Area V FFA officer and Brittany Townsend competed and won the election for state FFA officer from District V1. There are 21 school districts from Grayson and Fannin Counties that comprise the District VI FFA Association.

Fisher and Townsend will compete for their officer positions at the Area V FFA Convention in Mansfield May 9.

JUMPERS COLLECT $4,342
A grand total of $4,342.63 was collected by the students involved in the Whitesboro Elementary School Jump-A-Thon, held on February 9, in the school gymnasium. Donna Moore, physical education instructor, made the announcement this week.

Colony Mitchell, third grade student, was recognized as the individual winner for the largest amount of money collected with $270. For her efforts, she received a trophy and several prizes.

The top group with a combined total of $466 collected, was composed of: Anita Cunningham, Sara Guthrie, Kaelan Meals, Dylan Sampert and Mitchell, all third graders, and Audra Hatten, fourth grade student.

Honorable Mention second place winners for group effort were: Courtney Achimon, Bailey Cook, Kristin Funderburg, Leah Johnson, Ashley Lowrey and Summer Schulenberg, fourth grade. This group raised  a total of $301.

The money will be used to purchase new benches with fiberfill cushions for the gym, playground equipment and articles of sports equipment for the students’ use.

WHITESBORO TEAMS COMPETE IN “OLYMPICS OF THE MIND”
On Saturday, March 15 at Southern Methodist University in Dallas four teams from Whitesboro Junior High School and two teams from Whitesboro Elementary School attended an “Olympics of the Mind” competition.

“Olympics of the Mind” is an extracurricular school program now operating in more than 1,500 schools throughout the country. The idea is that mental games can be played with the same enthusiasm and competitive spirit as physical games and that the mind, like the body, can be trained through practice and exercise to reach its fullest potential.

In the Elementary School Division I, one of the Whitesboro teams placed fourth with “History The Way It Was - First Man On the Moon.” Students competed against schools like Plano, Richardson, Mineral Wells, Tyler, Terrell, Quinlan, Sulphur Springs, Rockwall, Greenville, Frisco, and Commerce and some private schools.

Members of the team included Felicia Auldridge, Tennille Center, Teresa Sims, Jason Kniss, Jeffrey Moore, Tomilyn Barker and Amy Alexander.

The elementary school “Technocrats” were Bronze Medal winners. They won the Ranatra Frusca Award for extremely creative solutions to their problem.

Team members included: Scott Woods, Chris Friese, Jamey Scott, Dan Friese, Dyfan Fletcher, and Jory Russell. Russell also won the individual Ranatra Fusca Award.

TALENT SHOW PRESENTED AT PTO MEETING
On Monday, March 17, the Whitesboro PTO met in the Whitesboro Elementary School cafeteria.

Betty Foster, program chairman, introduced the sixth annual Talent Show presented by third, fourth, and fifth grade students. The Talent Show was under the direction of Betty Foster, Janet Hawkins, Beverly Burdine, and Beverly Brown.

Participating in the show were: Candi Roland and Stacy Meek, song; Josh Atkins, song; Camille Smith and Lindsey Hargett, cheers; Jennifer Aiken, piano; Kevin Janway and Jarrett Crisp, dancing; Jamie Robinson, lip sync; Greg Lester, karate; Shawna Weedn, song; Layton Prestage, karate; Jennifer Krahl, piano; Brandon Brown, piano; Mickey Winfield, jokes; Bo Wade and Barry Kemp, karate; Jason Kniss, piano; Tennille Center, Sonya Huffhines, Brandy Lea, Shellie Darnell, Erin Dumas, Munchkinettes comical dance; Todd Southard, piano; and Allyson Williams, baton.
