Whitesboro EDC and IDC board members worked through a brief agenda last week where they corrected a date error and heard operational updates on water system monitoring improvements.
At last Wednesday’s regular meeting, members reviewed February sales tax performance and noted progress on the economic development strategy.
They also discussed midyear Type A/Type B budget amendments.
The board approved the consent agenda with a corrected date change from Jan. 7, 2026 to Feb. 4, 2026.
In other business, the city is advancing a monitoring/automation system to track tank levels and citywide water pressure and to balance pressure between two water towers.
The new tower west of town is near completion. The project was funded by a portion of EDC funds approved by voters some years ago.
The city reported $252,055 in February sales tax collections and projects approximately $2 million for the calendar year, a slight decrease from last year’s $2.2 million.
This February is 4.8% below February 2025, but still the second-highest February on record.
Year-to-date collections were reported at $427,556.
According to Economic Development Director Kathy Moore, the boards are entering the final phase of place-based economic development strategy work and she expects retail
recruitment activity to be strong in the second quarter of 2026.
Part of that strategy will include proposed stakeholder meetings over three Mondays in March. More information about these meetings can be found on page five of this issue of the News-Record.
A proposed midyear amendment would increase the Type A budget by $41,987 and the Type B budget by $34,901 to better reflect remaining-year needs.
Moore said the budget increases are primarily for contractual services and operations in the wake of former director Lynda Anderson’s retirement in January.
