Pirates sail to regional semis
The Collinsville Pirate basketball team was all gas, no brakes Friday night when they picked up an 80-55 win over the Clarksville Tigers in a Class 2A Division I Region II area round game at Commerce High School.
The win took Collinsville to 20-11 on the year.
They faced Waco Meyer, last year’s 2A Division II champion, in the region semifinals Tuesday at Weatherford. Results were not available as of press time.
This is the first time Collinsville has been region semis since 2014.
Against Clarksville, Chad Davidson and Ryder Robinson each scored 19 points.
Jaxson Spivey had 14 points.
Carter Larance had eight points.
Caysen Schafer had seven points for Collinsville.
Lady Pirates end run
The Collinsville Lady Pirate basketball team came up short Friday against Cisco.
They ended the season on the short end of a 54-45 final, in the Class 2A Division I Region II final at Eagle Mountain High School.
Ashleigh Ortowski led the effort— as she has all year— with 11 points.
Jaydee Matlock scored nine points.
Reese Patterson had seven points.
Kendall Brandewie, Zoey Kays and Paige Davidson all had six points.
Collinsville ended their year 33-4— just behind the 1956 and ’58 squads for wins in a season and length in the bracket.
The 1956 team celebrated the 70th anniversary of their State Championship earlier this year.
Ortowski, Brandewie and Patterson all fouled out against Cisco.
Matlock ended the night with four.
Lady Rams open district with a win
The S&S Lady Ram softball team opened district play Monday with an 11-1 win over Leonard at home.
Hayden Mowrey threw a four-hitter with 13 strikeouts and no walks.
She also went 2-for-3 with a triple, a homer, walked once, drove in two runs and scored twice.
Saryn Dowell went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and scored once.
Lana Walters went 2-for-4, drove in a run and scored once.
Hayden Kight and Brooklyn Sterling each went 2-for-4 and scored once.
Brynlee Mullican tripled and scored twice.
Tynslie Adcock walked, drove in a run and scored once.
Tabi Jordan singled and scored once.
Izzie Talamantes singled and drove in a run.
The win took S&S to 14-4 and 1-0 in district play.
They travel to Pottsboro tonight
Bearcats run third at home
The Whitesboro Bearcat track team finished third with 88 points last week at the Whitesboro Relays.
Collinsville was seventh with 53 points.
Whitesboro was led by Wyatt Winchester’s win in the 300 hurdles at 41.41 seconds and Zander Brannan’s win in the pole vault at 13 feet.
Camron Howard was the runner-up in the long jump at 19 feet, five and a half inches.
Mason Scarbrough was fourth at 18 feet.
Brannan took third in the 800 with a time of 2:04.60.
Jayden Jobert was sixth at 2:19.30.
The 1,600 relay of Howard, Brannan, Scout Reagelan and Winchester was third at 3:31.17.
Brannan also was fourth in the 1,600 at 5:02.90.
Keelan Bates finished fourth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 44.40 seconds.
He also took fifth in the 110 hurdles at 17.30 seconds.
Howard also took fourth in the high jump at five feet, eight inches.
Winchester was sixth at five feet, six inches.
Ayden LaSalle was fourth in the discus at 123 feet, nine inches.
The 800 relay of Howard, Colt Fagan, Aidan Brinlee and Reagelan was fourth in 1:33.86.
Jaxsen McBride took fifth in the 3,200 with 11:35.34.
Jesus Hernandez-Cortez was sixth in 11:41.37.
Fagan was fifth in the shot put with a throw of 40 feet, 11 inches.
LaSalle was sixth at 40 feet, 10 and a half inches.
The 400 relay of Reagelan, Winchester, Fagan and Howard took fifth in 45.09 seconds.
Collinsville was led by Fernando Perez’s win in the 3,200 in a time of 10:58.18.
Russell Carney took first in shot put at 53 feet, six and a half inches.
Carney also was the runner-up in the discus with 158 feet, four inches.
Cooper McMillan was third at 130 feet, two inches.
Perez was the second in the 1,600 with a time of 4:51.54.
Tanner Frick was sixth in 5:09.80.
Jose Ramirez was third in the 3,200 with a time of 11:26.69.
McMillan was also fourth in the shot put at 43 feet, six inches.
Lady Cats place fourth at home meet
They were led by the 1,600 relay of Shelby Riddle, Paisley Blevins, Aubrey Beam and Brylee Weddle winning in 4:11.13.
The 800 relay of Shelby Riddle, Karina Riddle, Sam Culligan and Weddle was second in 1:50.63.
Karen Melchor was third in the 3,200 in 13:44.80.
Tammy Lopez was fifth in 14:24.
Jasmin Hernandez was sixth in 14:36.10.
Beam was third in the high jump at four feet, eight inches.
Alexis Barrios Chavez was third in the shot put at 28 feet, nine inches.
She also tied for fifth in the high jump at four feet, four inches and was sixth in the 100 hurdles in 19.36 seconds.
The 400 relay of Ashlynn Warren, Culligan, Shelby Riddle and Weddle was fourth in 52.81 seconds.
Loretta Vawter was fourth in the pole vault at seven feet.
Nya Degraffenreed was fifth in the 1,600 in 6:04.70.
Vawter was sixth in 6:08.94.
Lady Cats tear up tournament play
The Whitesboro Lady Bearcat softball team picked up a huge 18-0 win in three innings over Farmersville last week in the Bells-Bonham Tournament.
Avery Howerton went 2-for-2 with two home runs, walked twice, drove in seven runs and scored four times.
In the circle, she also threw a two-hitter with five strikeouts and no walks.
Breighlin Rupert homered, drove in two runs and scored twice.
Cameron Ortiz doubled, drove in two and scored three runs.
Kennadi Fuller and Fallon Perkins each singled, walked, drove in a run and scored twice.
Jenna Cole singled, walked, drove in a run and scored once.
Reagan Downs walked twice and scored twice.
The win took Whitesboro to 13-5 on the year.
They opened district play Tuesday at home against Boyd.

Downs went 2-for-3 and scored twice.
Perkins homered, walked and drove in two runs.
Cole singled, walked, drove in a run and scored.
The Lady Cats also had a 10-0 victory in four innings over Rio Vista.

Thomas went 2-for-3 and scored twice.

Tioga track teams run at Aubrey
The Tioga Bulldog track team finished fifth-place at the Aubrey Relays.
The Lady Bulldogs placed seventh.
The boys earned 53 points.
The 1,600 relay of Quesyn Arrington, Kyson Kirkland, Greeley McAden and Justin Arrington won with a time of 3:19.10.
The 800 relay of Justin Arrington, Noah Vazquez, Quesyn Arrington and McAden was the runner-up in 1:28.28.
The 400 relay of McAden, Jaxson Hurst, Quesyn Arrington and Justin Arrington took third in 43.37 seconds.
Dominique Oranday finished fifth in the 800 in 2:07.57.
Garrison Black was sixth in the 3,200 with a time of 11:01.05 and sixth in the 1,600 with a time of 4:49.11.
Raul Chavez placed sixth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 42.22 seconds.
The Tioga ladies were seventh with 27 points.
The 400 relay of Timber Johnson, Ella Norwood, Bella Dennis and Kyndall Whitley took third in 50.76 seconds.
The 800 relay of Johnson, Dennis, Norwood and Maddy Schon took third with a time of 1:47.66.
Jillian Rodriguez was fifth in the 400 with a time of 1:04.38.
She was sixth in the 200 with a time of 27.66 seconds.

The Tioga Lady Bulldog softball team picked up a 20-12 win over S&S JV earlier this week in Sadler.

Kyndall Whitley went 3-for-5 with a triple, three RBIs and scored three times.
Sadie Bates went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and scored three runs.
Emerson Moore went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and scored twice.
Bella Dennis singled, walked twice, drove in two and scored twice.
Aly Salinas had three RBIs and scored twice.
