Your Neighbors House resale shop and food pantry benefit children, seniors and families in Whitesboro and other communities in Western Grayson County. However, while 2026 began with high hopes of continuing their mission of leading our community in ending hunger, the pantry shelves are not stocked to meet the challenge.
Your Neighbors House Director Connie Lloyd sent out a press release last week seeking recurring food donations.
“Behind every story of poverty and need is a family,” she wrote. “What helps these families is simple – a warm cup of soup, a chicken sandwich or appetizing breakfast cereal provided by compassionate, kind volunteers at Your Neighbors House food pantry. Some moms just need another bag of diapers, a warm blanket or some encouraging words to let her know we are here to help her feed her family.”
Lloyd is asking locals to consider providing recurring, monthly meal donations of any amount to help Your Neighbors House plan ahead and serve more families with nutritional staples.
“Our donors are the heart of how we provide nutritional food assistance to the needy neighbors of this community,” Lloyd said. “With more food donations to our pantry, each family is the recipient of a warm breakfast and wholesome dinner that can provide comfort and hope. Even one donated meal makes a difference to the families we feed.”
The food pantry is in need of donated canned goods, breakfast staples or canned fruit. Other suggested nutritious food items include:
- Peanut butter
- 5 oz. canned tuna or chicken
- Low sodium canned vegetables
- Mini trail mix bags
- Fresh produce
- Shelf stable milk
- Mac and cheese
- Fresh eggs
Donations can be dropped off at 109 Chestnut Street in Whitesboro. Specifically requested items can also be selected from the organization’s Amazon wish list. Financial contributions are always welcome and can be made with a debit or credit card at https://yourneighborshouse.org/donate-now.html
“When you donate, you don’t just feed one hungry person,” Lloyd said. “You provide much needed basic nutrients and sustenance to entire families. Our volunteers are dedicated to giving every family hope they will not go hungry this month.”
