Lady Pirates handle Hico
The Collinsville Lady Pirate basketball team topped Hico, 62-45, Monday in the Class 2A Division I Region II semifinal round at Azle.
Kendall Brandewie led the attack with 20 points. Jaydee Matlock had 18 points. Ashleigh Ortowski had 12 points. Reese Patterson offered six points.
The win took Collinsville to 33-3 on the year. They advanced to the region final and will face the winner of Muenster and Cisco for a spot in the state semifinals. Results of that contest were not available as of press time.
Pirates pick up first playoff win since 2014
The Collinsville Pirate basketball team picked up a 72-65 win over the Whitewright Tigers Monday in a Class 2A Division I Region II bi-district round of the playoffs.
Chad Davidson led the attack with 22 points. Ryder Robinson had 21 points. Carter Larance had 11 points. Jaxson Spivey had eight points.
It was the first playoff win since 2014 for Collinsville and took the Pirates to 19-11 on the year. They will face the winner of Clarksville and Quinlan Boles later this week in the area round.
Results on that contest were not available as of press time.
Bulldogs take first at PP meet, W’boro comes in second
The Tioga boys track team took top honors last week at the Pilot Point Bearcat Relays. Whitesboro took second in the team standings.
Tioga won with 111 points. Whitesboro had 77. S&S was sixth with 19 points. Collinsville placed eighth with 11 points.
The Bulldogs took gold in all three relays.
The 400 relay of Greeley McAden, Jaxson Hurst, Quesyn Arrington and Justin Arrington won in 43.08 seconds.
The 800 relay of Justin Arrington, Noah Vazquez, Quesyn Arrington and McAden won in 1:28.31.
The 1,600 relay of Quesyn Arrington, Kyson Kirkland, McAden and Justin Arrington won in 3:23.67.
Hurst also won the 100 with a time of 11.27 seconds.
Hayden Roberts finished fourth in 11.54 seconds. Garrison Black took silver in the 3,200 with a time of 10:53. Alexis Santoyo-Pina was sixth in 11:22. Vazquez took bronze in the 200 with a time of 23.78 seconds. Kirkland was sixth in 24.30 seconds. Hayden Roberts was third in the 400 with a time of 54.73 seconds. Raul Chavez took third in the 300 hurdles with a time of 42.82 seconds and Kallin Henderson was fifth in 43.65 seconds. Dominique Oranday was fourth in the 800 with a time of 2:09.81. Santoyo-Pina was fifth in the 1,600 with a time of 5:08.13.
Oranday was sixth in 5:08.17.
Whitesboro’s Zander Brannan won the 800 with a time of 2:07.04. He also took second in the 1,600 at 5:00.12.
Wyatt Winchester won the 300 hurdles in 42.16 seconds.
The 400 relay of Camron Howard, Keelan Bates, Scout Regealen and Rhet Rudzinski placed second in 45.92 seconds.
The 1,600 relay of Brannan, Howard, Winchester and Regealen was second in 3:33.40.
Bates also was third in the 110 hurdles with a time of 18.46 seconds. Howard was fourth in the 200 with a time of 24.04 seconds.
The 800 relay of Colt Fagan, Rudzinski, Mason Scarbrough and Aidan Brinlee was fourth with 1:36.69.
Rudzinski was sixth in the 100 with a time of 11.64 seconds.
S&S’s Donaven Gingras came in fourth in the 3,200 with 11:07. Carter Ross placed sixth in the 110 hurdles with 19.86 seconds.
Collinsville’s Fernando Perez took gold in the 1,600 with a time of 4:58.74. He was also sixth in the 800 in 2:14.48.
Lady Cats take 4th in PP meet
The Whitesboro Lady Bearcat track team took fourth last week in the Pilot Point Bearcat Relays with 75 team points.
Tioga was fifth with 40 points and S&S was sixth with 22 points.
Pilot Point took third and Krum took first.
Whitesboro’s Brylee Weddle won the 200 with a time of 26.58 seconds.
The 1,600 relay of Shelby Riddle, Weddle, Paisley Blevins and Aubrey Beam won with a time of 4:18.61.
Sam Culligan placed third in the 400 with a time of 1:07.50. Beam was fourth in 1:08.92. Karina Riddle was sixth in 1:11.25. Jasmin Hernandez was third in the 3,200 with a time of 13:33. Karen Melchor was fourth in 13:42. Tammy Lopez was fifth in 13:52.
The 400 relay of Riddle, Ashlynn Warren, Culligan and Weddle won third in 53.34 seconds.
Beam was fourth in the 800 at 2:37.26.
The 800 relay of Riddle, Alexis Barrios Chavez, Warren and Nya Degraffenreed took fifth in 2:02.26.
Shelby Riddle was sixth in the 100 with a time of 13.81 seconds. Barrios Chavez placed sixth in the 100 hurdles with a time of 19.56 seconds.
Tioga’s Jillian Rodriguez was second in the 400 with a time of 1:07.23 and third in the 100 with a time of 13.49 seconds.
The 400 relay of Timber Johnson, Maddy Schon, Bella Dennis and Rodriguez took second in 51.87 seconds. Dennis was third in the 200 with 27.72 seconds. Schon was fourth in 28.26 seconds.
S&S’s 800 relay of Novalee Adams, Ayvah Gentry, Bella Bennett and Dandree Meeks took third with a time of 1:56.06. Adams was fourth in the 100 with a time of 13.69 seconds.
The 400 relay of Bennett, Adams, Addyson Russell and Gentry took fifth with a time of 55.02 seconds. Meeks took sixth in the 800 with a time of 2:41.39 and in the 1,600 at 6:12.60.
Lady Cats end Denton Tourney up
The Whitesboro Lady Bearcat softball team ended the Denton Tournament over the weekend with a 4-1 win over Rockwall-Heath in four innings.
Avery Howerton homered, drove in three, scored twice and allowed an unearned run on three hits with 10 strikeouts and a walk. Cameron Ortiz went 2-for-2, walked once, drove in two runs and scored once. Breighlin Rupert doubled and drove in a run. Kennadi Fuller walked twice and scored once.
The win took Whitesboro to 7-4 on the year.
The Lady Bearcats also had a 12-3 win in five innings against Copperas Cove.
Fuller went 2-for-3 in that affair with a double and a triple, drove in a run and scored three times. Kaydence Thomas went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Ortiz went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Jenna Cole went 2-for-4 and drove in a run. Howerton homered, walked three times and scored three times.
Whitesboro also had a 9-6 loss in five innings against Denton Braswell in tourney play. Howerton went 2-for-3 with two home runs and three RBIs. Ortiz went 3-for-3 with a double, drove in a run and scored once. Rupert went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Downs went 2-for-3 and scored once.
The Lady Bearcats also had a 5-4 win in five innings against Denison. Ortiz went 2-for-2 with a double and four RBIs. Downs walked and scored three times and Thomas walked and scored twice.
The Lady Cats played at Krum on Tuesday. Results were not available as of press time.
Lady Rams rolling
The S&S Lady Ram softball team closed the North Central Tournament with a 10-0 win againstFrisco Legacy Christian.
Dandre Meeks tripled, walked, drove in two and scored twice. Hayden Mowrey went 3-for-3 with a double, drove in a run and scored once. Lana Walters went 2-for-3, walked, drove in a run and scored twice. Saryn Dowell tripled, drove in two and scored twice. Izzie Talamantes doubled, drove in a run and scored once.
The win took S&S to 10-1 on the year.
S&S also had a 19-4 win in three innings against Whitewright in tourney play. Mowrey went 2-for-3 with a home run, five RBIs and scored twice. Walters went 2-for-2, walked, drove in three and scored three times. Meeks went 2-for-2 with two doubles, walked and scored three times. Hayden Kight went 2-for-3 and scored three times. Marley Hill singled, walked, drove in two and scored twice. Dowell doubled, drove in two and scored twice.
The Lady Rams also had a 3-0 victory in five innings against Amarillo Caprock. In that bout, Mowrey threw a one-hitter with eight strikeouts and no walks. She also went 2-for-2 and drove in a run.
Dowell singled, drove in a run and scored once. Walters singled and drove in a run and scored once. Hannah Foster walked and scored once. The Lady Rams played at Little Elm on Tuesday.

Lady Pirates up and down in Era Tourney
The Collinsville Lady Pirate softball team ended the Era Tournament Saturday with a 5-3 loss against Bryson.
Aubrey Dishman doubled and drove in two runs. Abigail Kruger doubled and scored once. Avery Gonzalez and Kenzlie Weaver each walked and scored once.
The win took Collinsville to 1-4 on the year.
The Lady Pirates also had a 13-3 win in four innings against Era in tourney play. Weaver went 2-for-2 with a double, walked, drove in two and scored once. Kruger and Gonzalez each went 2-for-2, walked and scored twice. Rilee Stewart went 2-for-3 with a double, triple and scored twice. Hailey Germany singled, walked and scored twice. Bailey Miller singled, drove in a run and scored.
Collinsville starts district play at Dodd City on March 3.
Lady Pirates roll out of Area
The Collinsville Lady Pirate basketball team topped Cooper, 72-47, last week in the Class 2A Division I Region II area round.
Ashleigh Ortowski led the attack with 27 points. Kendall Brandewie finished with 14 points. Jaydee Matlock totaled 12 points. Paige Davidson had 10 points.
The win took Collinsville 32-3 on the year and fifth on the state rankings ahead of Monday’s regional semi bout against Hico. It was the third straight appearance in the region semifinals for the Lady Pirates.

The Whitesboro Lady Bearcat softball team closed out day one of the Denton Tournament last week with an 8-1 loss to Byron Nelson.
Avery Howerton singled, walked and scored. Reagan Downs singled and walked. Kaydence Thomas doubled for Whitesboro.
The loss took Whitesboro to 4-3 on the year.
The Lady Bearcats opened with an 11-1 win in four innings over Sachse.
In that affair, Jenna Cole went 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBIs and scored once. Howerton went 2-for-2 with a double and a triple, walked once, drove in two runs and scored. Thomas doubled and drove in three runs. Downs singled, walked, drove in a run and scored twice. Cameron Ortiz singled, drove in a run and scored twice. Breighlin Rupert singled, walked, drove in a run and scored once. Emma Parish and Fallon Perkins each singled, walked and scored.
Lady Rams come up big in tourney play
The S&S Lady Ram softball team beat Lancaster, 17-0, in three innings last week to close out the first day of the North Central Tournament.
Brooklyn Sterling went 2-for-2 with a double and a home run, walked, drove in four runs. Marley Lunde went 3-for-3 with a double, drove in a run and scored once. Hayden Mowrey went 2-for-3 with two doubles, drove in a run and scored three times. Tabi Jordan tripled, drove in a run and scored twice. Hayden Kight tripled, drove in a run and scored once. Saryn Dowell doubled, drove in a run, scored once. She also combined with Brynlee Mullican on a perfect game.
The win took S&S to 7-1 on the year.
The Lady Rams started with a 2-0 win in six innings against Tom Bean. Mowrey went 2-for-3 in that affair with a triple and a home run. She also threw a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts and a walk. Lana Walters doubled, walked and scored and Kight doubled.

The Collinsville Lady Pirate softball team closed day one of the Era Tournament last week with a 14-0 loss to Valley View in four innings.
Hailey Germany singled. Abigail Kruger also had a hit.
The loss took Collinsville to 0-3 on the year.
They opened with a 14-1 loss in four innings against Paradise where Avery McDonald singled and Rilee Stewart walked and scored.
Bulldogs fall to Bells
The Tioga Bulldogs baseball team logged a 12-2 loss to Bells last week, in four innings, in the Whitewright Tournament.
Caleb Moncrief went 2-for-2 with a double and scored once. Calan Sweeney doubled and drove in a run. Cameron Askew singled and scored once.
The loss took Tioga to 2-1 on the year.
The Bulldogs also earned an 8-4 win in five innings against Blue Ridge. In that affair, Luke Roberts went 2-for-3, walked, drove in two and scored twice. Askew went 3-for-3 with a double and scored twice. Jaxton Dejernett went 2-for-3, walked and scored once. Jesus Enriquez went 2-for-2 with a double, walked, drove in a run and scored once. Hayden Manzo walked twice and scored once. Sweeney walked twice, drove in a run and scored once. Maddox Hurst singled, walked and drove in a run.
Bearcats end season with loss, miss playoffs
The Whitesboro Bearcat basketball team finished their season with a 37-25 road loss against Callisburg last week in district action.
The Bearcats ended the season 7-23 and 3-9 in district play missing the playoffs.
Pirates fall to Muenster
The Collinsville Pirate basketball team ended the regular season Feb. 17 with a 46-43 home loss to Muenster.
Collinsville entered the post season with an 18-11 record on the year and 10-4 in district play.
Tioga toppled by Chico
The Tioga Bulldog basketball team ended their season with a 63-43 home loss against Chico in district play.
Tioga ended the year 12-18 and 3-11 in district play missing the playoffs.
Lady Rams run-rule Sanger
The S&S Lady Ram softball team run-ruled Sanger in non-district action last week with a 12-1 final in five innings.
Hayden Mowrey went 2-for-2 with two homers, walked once, drove in three runs and scored four times. She only allowed one unearned run on five hits with nine strikeouts and no walks
Lana Walters homered, walked, drove in two runs and scored twice. Saryn Dowell went 2-for-4 with a double and scored twice. Tynslie Adcock walked twice, drove in two runs and scored once. Brooklyn Sterling walked twice, drove in a run and scored once.
The win took S&S to 5-1 on the year. They opened play in the North Central Tournament at THF Park in Denison Thursday.
Bearcats fall to City View
The Whitesboro Bearcat baseball team opened their 2026 season last week at home with an 11-3 loss to Wichita Falls City View.
Korbin Ross went 2-for-3 with a double. Jace Bomar went 2-for-4 and scored once. Brayden Johnson singled, walked and scored once. Rhet Rudzinski singled and walked once.
The Bearcats hosted Howe on Monday night.
