CURTIS ANNE KINSFATHER HONORED AS TCTA’S RETIRED TEACHER OF THE YEAR
Whitesboro resident, Curtis Anne Kinsfather, captured the hearts of the crowd on Saturday, February 24, when she was named the state Classroom Teachers Association Retiree of the Year for 1995-1996 at the annual TCTA awards luncheon in Dallas. The prestigious award, bestowed by the 33,000 member body of the only state professional association devoted exclusively to the needs of classroom teachers and other professional non-administrative personnel, has been granted yearly since 1983.
Nominations begin at the local level with guidelines focusing on a retired teacher who has demonstrated outstanding service to the educational profession, to students and to the community.
Kinsfather was the first nominee to be presented to the state board by Whitesboro CTA.
T.R. Fletcher, Whitesboro High School English instructor and former teaching colleague of Kinsfather’s, made the introduction of the award recipient. Fletcher, who is a local CTA member, was instrumental in Kinsfather’s nomination and wrote the nominative material submitted to the state.
Kinsfather received three standing ovations from the 380 teachers, educators and guests from across Texas, who assembled for the 1:00 event, in the second floor ballroom of the Sheraton Park Central Hotel, where the 1995-1996 TCTA convention was held this past week.
A surprise tribute to Kinsfather was a vocal selection performed by Susie Meals, Darla Mitchell, Sharon Autry and Charlene Ford following the invocation led by Sue Barker. Whitesboro CTA president.”With This Light,” written by a Dallas teacher, was adapted for Kinsfather and sung by four young women from Whitesboro, each a former student of the retiree.
