UIL names new athletic districts
The numbers are in, the chips have fallen and area high school athletic programs found out Monday what their districts will look like for the next two years.

The only area team that knew it was going into a new classification was Gunter.

After a decade of success at the 3A/DII level, they are making the jump to Division I and will join three other local teams in what promises to be a competitive district.

Gunter will join Whitesboro, Pottsboro and Pilot Point along witth Dallas A+ Academy and Dallas Life Oak Cliff in District 5-3A Division I.

Whitesboro, Pottsboro and Gunter have never been in the same district.

The last time Pottsboro and Gunter were together was 2007.

The last time Gunter and Whitesboro were together was 1950.

Gunter’s move opened a spot in District 7-3A Division II.

To which, Bells, Howe, S&S, Blue Ridge, Leonard and Callisburg welcome Valley View.

After four years together in District 6-2A Division I, Tioga, Tom Bean and Whitewright will part ways.

Tioga stays in 6-2A (I) with Alvord and Nocona but they welcome two-time defending State Champion Muenster along with Chico— both having moved up from Division II.
Olney will round the slate.

The Collinsville Pirate stayed in their division but moved to Region III.

They will line up District 9-2A Division II with old friends Lindsay and Era.

They will welcome Celeste, Cumby and Quinlan Boles.

Other sports besides football have different districts and there are changes there too.

The biggest of which came at the 3A level as S&S was split between two districts for basketball and volleyball.

In volleyball, the Lady Rams are now in District 10-3A with Bells, Gunter, Howe, Pottsboro, Blue Ridge and Leonard.

In basketball, S&S was moved back west with Whitesboro in District 8-3A which will also include Boyd, Callisburg, Paradise, Pilot Point and Valley View.

Baseball and softball districts will be announced later.

In 2A volleyball District 10-2A, Collinsville, Tioga, Tom Bean and Whitewright stayed with Sam Rayburn but Lindsay was added, and Trenton moved further east.

For basketball, the new 13-2A will consist of Collinsville, Tioga, Tom Bean, Whitewright, Era, Lindsay and Muenster.
