As first responders continue to serve Callisburg, it’s important that Callisburg Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) remains properly equipped to handle all emergencies. Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation® recognized the department’s need for new lifesaving equipment and recently awarded them a $39,920 grant to purchase battery-operated extrication tools.

The new tools will enable these firefighters to quickly and safely extricate victims from vehicle accidents without the limitations of traditional hydraulic systems, such as cumbersome hoses and pumps. These Genesis Rescue SLi Cutter and Spreader tools are powered by Milwaukee M18 batteries, feature LED lighting for low-visibility conditions and provide high cutting and spreading forces to handle reinforced steel and modern vehicle materials.

This upgrade will enhance response times in Callisburg’s rural 136-square-mile coverage area in Northeastern Cooke County, where highway accidents are common, ultimately improving safety for both rescuers and community members.

“We are grateful to the Foundation and our local Firehouse Subs® in Sherman for providing us with this invaluable funding,” said Chris Kundrock, CVFD Public Information Officer. “The added benefit of having the very best equipment on hand means everything in an emergency when every second counts.”

For the past 19 years, charitable donations have been the driving force behind Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation supporting first responders and public safety organizations nationwide.

The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation has awarded 6,914 grants valued at over $98 million to public safety organizations since 2005. This grant is one of 65 the Foundation awarded during the most recent grant cycle. The 65 grants will provide critical lifesaving equipment valued at more than $1.7 million across the U.S.
