C’VILLE MAYOR RESIGNS
Collinsville resident Cecil Miller has resigned his position as Mayor of Collinsville, citing unemployment stress as reasons for his resignation.
Collinsville council members accepted Miller’s resignation during their meeting January 14.
The 31-year-old Miller was officially elected mayor in April 1985, for a two-year term. Prior to that, he served as councilman and mayor pro-tem for a year.
Councilman Clifton Reed is now serving as mayor pro-tem until Collinsville citizens elect a mayor in April for a one-year term.
“My main reason is the stress of unemployment,” said Miller. “I have lost my job and have been in such a strain trying to look for work and it’s just gotten to be too much. There’s a lot of pressure in city government,” he stated.
Miller had been unemployed at Texas Manufacturing east of Whitesboro, Texas Highway 56, where he worked seven years. The past five years he was a welder for the company. Miller, however, was caught in a layoff seige in the company.
Miller and his wife Marilyn have three children: Annette, 12; C.J., 4; and Mary, 1.
“I really do appreciate the voters for their confidence in me and I hope I fulfilled their support. I enjoyed working with the present council and I want to wish them the best of luck,” said Miller.
