The North Central Texas Chorale (NCTC) is looking for singers to join the group for this spring’s performance of A Journey to Hope: A Cantata Inspired by Spirituals by Joseph M. Martin. This uplifting choral work is full of soaring harmonies, rich textures and a message that resonates with every voice.
Whether you’re a seasoned chorister or returning to singing after a break, you’ll find supportive rehearsals, expert direction and chances to grow musically while making lasting friendships. Together the group will explore the piece’s emotional arc, polish expressive phrasing and prepare for a moving performance that will inspire their audience and strengthen the community. Come lend your voice to something beautiful -- your part matters and the journey will be unforgettable.
NCTC is under the direction of Mr. Clint Kelley, who received his Bachelor of Music from the University of Texas at Tyler. From 2006 to 2007 he worked with the University of Nevada Reno Community Chorus prior to coming to Texas. Kelley is a creative concert planner who excels at motivating and inspiring singers.
Shirley Hatfield will be the accompanist/organist this season. She has been the Organist-Choirmaster of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Gainesville since 2009. Prior to coming to Gainesville, she served as Organist-Choirmaster of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Ardmore, Oklahoma for 40 years.
Although a majority of Chorale members are from Gainesville, many other cities including Bonita, Dallas, Denton, Decatur, Lindsay, Pilot Point, Muenster, Sanger, St. Jo, Valley View and Whitesboro have been represented. There is no audition required to sing with the Chorale, only that singers have experience singing in choirs. The ability to read music and sing on pitch is also very important.
Rehearsals are on Tuesdays from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Choir Room at the First State Bank Center for the Performing Arts located on the North Central Texas College campus in Gainesville. Rehearsals will begin on Jan. 27.
The NCTC looks forward to adding more singers. If you have any questions, please contact Chorale Public Relations, Phil Schenk, at 940-387-1886.
