Appreciation, recognition top WISD board agenda

Appreciation, recognition top WISD board agenda

Amidst the hustle and bustle of ongoing projects and productivity, it’s nice to sometimes take a moment to appreciate the people who work to get things done.

Monday night was an evening of gratitude that began at the Whitesboro Intermediate School Cafeteria and ended at the Hayes Primary School Cafeteria.

Before their regularly scheduled meeting, the WISD School Board was treated to a special dinner in honor of School Board Appreciation Month.

There, the WISD food service crew was proud to serve shrimp cocktail, chicken fried steak, green beans, baked potato, a roll and sopapilla cheesecake for dessert.

Following the meal, the board members held their meeting at Hayes Primary School, where they recognized the High School Marching Band for its impressive fifth-place finish at this year’s State contest at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

Director of Bands Austin Nestler thanked the administration, parents and students for all of their support this season, reminding everyone the skills these students are building that will far surpass their interest in music.

He then called each student forward to receive a certificate and handshake from each of the school board members.

Next, each principal recognized the teacher and employee of the month for their respective campus. At the high school, the Teacher of the Month was Debbie Falco (English) and Employee of the Month was Marileigh McCall (Agriculture Coordinator). At the middle school, the Teacher of the Month was Chrystal Marsh (SPED) and Employee of the Month was Monica Castorena (custodian).

At the intermediate school, the Teacher of the Month was Penny Borchardt (ELAR) and Employee of the Month was Shaleigh Merritt (Nurse). At Hayes Primary School, the Teacher of the Month was Lindsay Rand (kindergarten) and Employee of the Month was Chris Williams (office manager/registrar).

Then, Brother Mike Flanagan from the Ministerial Alliance came forward to recognize Coach Cody Fagan and the athletics students for all of their help with this holiday’s Christmas baskets.

Each year, the alliance works to collect donations for food baskets for area families, and the WISD athletics department was instrumental in gathering, sorting and distributing those items this Christmas season.

Thanks to everyone’s efforts, several local families enjoyed a happy holiday.
