NTMC receives Texas Mutual grant

NTMC receives Texas Mutual grant

Texas Mutual has awarded more than $4.4 million to 58 nonprofit organizations across the state to help fortify businesses and strengthen the state’s economy. North Texas Medical Center (NTMC) in Gainesville has been awarded $79,000 to assist with training, education and certifications.

NTMC will use the grant money for education and training including Spanish medical interpreter certification, medical laboratory scientist continuing education, IV certifications, conference and professional memberships, and training to operate the new cardiac CT machine. A total of 76 requests were submitted by NTMC staff members, and all 76 will be covered by this grant.

The Texas Mutual grants were provided through their Request for Proposal (RFP) initiative, focused on workforce development and safety training. Texas nonprofits were invited to apply between August 11 and September 12. They specifically looked for applicants who are focused on:
• Training the current and future skilled workforce in safe work practices, especially in industries or occupations at higher risk for workplace accidents
• Creating strong pathways for in-demand middle-skill jobs
• Upskilling and reskilling adult learners using earn-and-learn initiatives

After applications were submitted, Texas Mutual conducted an extensive, month-long review process, which included 58 employee volunteers. Reviewers assessed grant applications based on several criteria, including evaluating organizations for their work in safety training, creating job pathways and reskilling adult learners as well as their overall alignment with our commitment to building a stronger, safer, more resilient Texas. The community affairs team also worked to ensure that funding was distributed across the state and supported underserved communities.
