Get ready to swing into the holiday season like never before. A Swingin’ Christmas is coming to Gainesville, Texas, bringing the golden age of Big Band music together with beloved holiday classics for one spectacular afternoon that promises to have audiences of all ages swingin’ along.
Santa Claus himself will be making a special guest appearance, bringing his jolly spirit to the stage in a way that will delight children and adults alike. And in a special highlight of the afternoon, the talented children’s choir Dolce Canto will join the Gainesville Swing Orchestra (under the direction of Dave Alexander) for a special performance of “I saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus.”
Whether you’re a fan of classic big band music, looking for a memorable family outing or simply want to experience the holidays in a whole new way, this concert will have you humming all the way home.
In a special tribute to history, the U.S. Naval Sea Cadets from the Red River Battalion will be present in the lobby before the concert and during intermission, presenting an educational display about Dec. 7, 1941—a date that forever changed America and the world. This meaningful addition connects the Big Band era with the Greatest Generation, who danced to this very music during wartime, adding historical significance to the celebration.
Don’t miss this once-a-year performance where vintage swing meets holiday cheer. The event will take place Dec. 7 at First State Bank Center for Performing Arts, North Central Texas College, Gainesville Campus. Doors open at 2 p.m. and concert starts at 2:30 p.m.
Tickets are $14 for adults, $7 for students and $10 for senior citizens and will be available at the door or presale via the GSO Facebook page. For more information, visit www.gsobigbandswing.org
